LINDSAY, Percy
Evening, Creswick 1894
oil on canvas laid on board
signed and dated lower left
28 x 39
cm
Provenance: Peter Lindsay (son of Percy); Certificate of authenticity verson from Bloomfield Galleries.
Comments: Percy Lindsay (brother of Norman, Lionel, Daryl and Ruby) produced some of the finest impressionist landscapes in Victoria in the 1890s, in particular his gold-mining subjects around Creswick. However, it was not until the Ballarat Art Gallery mounted the memorial exhibition of his work in 1975 that his work gained the appreciation it deserved. His oils from this period are now rarely seen on the market.
